Banff is great but a little over-crowded at times. Best to take in the nature experience during the off seasons. But it doesn't matter what time of year it is, there is always stuff to see and do in Banff. Having been to Banff many times, I have never gone and not seen either a bear, elk, deer or mountain goat.
Deep in the Canadian Rockies a large turquoise lake trickles from the thousands year old glacier in the distance. The Fairmont Hotel is world class and books visitors months in advance.
Montreal is perhaps my all-time favourite place to just walk around by myself. No other city will allow you to be on a hill overlooking the city from above; shop at fancy French boutiques; dine at some of the best restaurants in the world; see old historic buildings and modern skyscrapers; enjoy a vibrant nightlife; and watch the sun rise and set at the port - all within walking distance
Fly to Calgary. Upon arrival collect your hire car and drive to Canmore at the gates of the Rocky Mountains.
Spend the day exploring Banff National Park which lies just a few minutes drive away. There are lots of activities to explore in this stunning region or you may just prefer to discover the town.
Drive north to Jasper, along the spectacular Icefields Parkway. There are many breathtakingly beautiful lakes and glaciers to admire en route like Lake Louise and Castle Mountain.
Jasper National Park awaits your discovery today. This morning join a trip to picturesque Spirit Island to take a boat trip on the lovely lake there. In the afternoon you may wish to visit Maligne Lake and Canyon or look for wildlife in the mountains.
Drive past Mount Robson, the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies, and Wells Gray Provincial Park before descending to the arid canyon lands around Kamloops.
Today your drive takes you through the heart of B.C.’s cattle rearing country, past Hells Gate Canyon, to the great coastal city of Vancouver.
Day at leisure in Vancouver. There are plenty of sights to see in this cosmopolitan city including Stanley Park, Chinatown, historic Gastown, and the shops of Robson Street.
There is time this morning for last minute shopping and sightseeing before driving to Vancouver Airport at the end of your trip.
